The Waterloo Catholic District School Board with a total student population of 38,000, provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12) across the Waterloo Region.

G eneral Description of the Program:

FREE English language training program

Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

English as a Second Language (ESL) . Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

You will report to the Program Managers of the CNC/LINC/ESL Program

General Description of Duties:

Preparing and delivering Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) level appropriate lessons based on the ESL/LINC guidelines

Implementing PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment)

Providing learner-centered language instruction using resources and activities sensitive to cultural differences, equity, and inclusivity

Assessing learners’ needs, development, and skill levels in accordance with CLB guidelines using CLB based assessment tools

Using an online platform for posting learning materials (Avenue, Google classroom, etc.) in an in-person or remote situation.

Supporting students to do their work using Chromebooks in both in-person and remote learning scenarios.

Using professionally acceptable and effective classroom management strategies following LINC/ESL procedures

Sharing community support contact information with students

Administrative duties as required such as HARTS attendance, etc.

Note : All in person and online classes are taught at the school by the instructor

M inimum Requirements:

Current TESL Ontario Accredited Certification (or proof of application)

Recent Canadian Language Benchmarks training or willingness to complete

Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English

Desirable Assets:

Experience teaching in an ESL setting

Experience working with adult learners

Completed PBLA training or willingness to complete training

Knowledge of Avenue, Google Classroom and/or other platforms for learning

Comfortable using and learning more technology for teaching English

Location: St. Louis Adult Learning & Adult Education Centres

Various Campuses - Kitchener, ON

Program Hours: Morning, afternoon, evening

Rate of Pay: $39.13 per hours plus vacation and Statutory pay
