SUMMER STUDENT - GROUNDS

Summer 2025 (temporary seasonal) - Approximately May 1 to August 29

Pay rate: $17.20/hour + 4% vacation pay

Hours of work: 7.5 hours per day,

Scheduled 7:00 am to 2:30 pm Monday to Friday; 30-min paid lunch to be taken on-site

Work Location: various WCDSB locations across the City of Guelph and possibly Wellington County



The Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) is looking for enthusiastic, energetic and motivated students to join the seasonal Grounds team, during the summer of 2025. Seasonal dates will be determined, starting as early as May and ending by Labour Day.



POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Grounds Operator, the Grounds team provides well-maintained, clean and safe environments at all of our schools and administrative locations.



RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

· Plant bed and lawn maintenance including mowing, weeding, cutting, trimming, seeding, sodding, edging, mulching, trimming & pruning of plant material, tree maintenance, removal of debris and branches.

· Operating grounds care equipment such as push mowers, weed trimmers, tree pruners etc.

· Assist with furniture & equipment or supply moves as may be required.

· Other duties as assigned



REQUIREMENTS:

All Summer Students will be required to complete online Health and Safety (H&S) training including but not limited to WHMIS, Slips, Trips & Falls, Workplace Violence, Back Injury & Lifting, AODA, H&S Policy, and Worker H&S Awareness.



Grounds employees must wear CSA approved steel-toe footwear. Safety glasses and hearing protection will be provided. You will be provided with uniform shirts to wear during your work shift.



Applicants must be returning to school in September 2025.

Applications received after the closing date will be reviewed only as needed until all positions are filled.

Preference will be given first to returning students suitable for the positions and then to students who are currently enrolled in University or College and are former graduates of the WCDSB system. Students completing their last year of high school in the WCDSB system may be considered if they are available to work when required. Applicants who are currently enrolled in University or College who did not gradate from the WCDSB will then also be considered should positions remain unfilled.



Returning students who previously submitted their interest and confirmed receipt via email or verbally are not required to re-apply.



Successful external candidates will be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment. Please note that the CRC must be dated within 6 months of the date of acceptance of employment, and in most cases must include a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
