Description
This position will lead in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the teaching and learning support services legislated by the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) Education Act and regulations and required under the Educational Renewal Framework: Directions for Change, and the associated Action Plan(s) from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (JK-12).
This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of the transition of Yellowknife Catholic Schools’ curriculum from the current Alberta Curriculum to the British Columbia curriculum as mandated by the Department of Education, Culture, and Employment. The position will work closely with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning to streamline assessment, instruction, and professional development for curriculum renewal and technology integration. This position will continue to support observable impact planning in alignment with our district priorities of Inspiring Thinking, Cultivating Well-Being, and Building Relationships.
Required Education and Recommended Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
Must hold, or be eligible for a(n) NWT Teaching Certificate
Bachelor of Education Degree
Masters Degree in school administration (or related field) is an asset
Minimum 3 years in a school-based administration role or equivalent leadership experience
Experience providing leadership in development and implementation of district priorities and initiatives.
Experience in leading a team of people towards school and/or district goals.
Demonstrate understanding of educational change, curriculum implementation, equity and inclusive learning, and integration of technology.
Demonstrate exemplary leadership, communication, presentation, and organization skills.
Demonstrate commitment to professional growth both personally and in current leadership context
Experience providing leadership in the development and implementation of effective practices across curricular areas aligned with the British Columbia curriculum is an asset
Experience working collaboratively with school administration and staff
A Vulnerable Sector Check is required
Required Skills and Abilities
Ability to understand NWT Indigenous cultures and educational history in order to incorporate traditional knowledge and worldviews into all aspects of the work.
Written communication skills for a variety of areas including executive correspondence, policy, and curriculum documents.
Ability to use computer technology for communication and presentations.
Ability to work cooperatively in team situations including with members from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
Ability to engage the public in a culturally appropriate manner, both in writing and orally, while considering diverse literacy levels when developing documents and resources.
Ability to manage time and tasks efficiently and effectively.
Exceptional verbal communication and facilitation skills
