As part of the Elkem family, two plants are based in the Saguenay: the ferrosilicon plant located at 2020 Chemin de la Réserve in Chicoutimi and the Biocarbon pilot plant located at 1261 des Sociétaires in Chicoutimi. About Elkem Ferrosilicon:

In February 1966, the company Les Silicums de Chicoutimi Ltée was founded by Union Carbide Canada Limited, the Aluminium Company of Canada, the Montreal Engineering Company and the Royal Securities Corporation Limited in order to produce ferrosilicon alloys. In 1971, Union Carbide Canada Limited held 100% ownership and the Chicoutimi plant became part of the Metals division of Union Carbide Canada Limited. On July 24 1984, Elkem AS purchased Union Carbide Canada Limited, Metals division. Since then, the company has been known as Elkem Metal Canada Inc.

The first tap was made on July 1st 1967 and Elkem Chicoutimi will continue to maintain its enviable position in the American market by producing speciality ferrosilicon, ferrosilicon based inoculants and magnesium-ferrosilicon alloys adapted to customer requirements. The plant also has a 37 MW capacity powerplant and an energy recovery system.

About Biocarbon Pilot Plant:

In an effort to reduce its environmental footprint, Elkem has developed a unique biocarbon using an innovative process. Elkem - Biocarbon Pilot Plant is therefore eager to build a solid team to deploy its biocarbon manufacturing technology. It is in this context that we are looking for people interested to join our dynamic team to contribute to the next steps of industrialization and operation of the pilot plant.
