Position Overview

Fraser Crossing Partners, selected by the Province of British Columbia to design, build and partially finance the project, is a 50/50 joint venture between Aecon and Acciona. The new four-lane cable-stayed bridge over the Fraser River will provide network connections to New Westminster and Surrey, feature a centre safety median barrier and wider lanes to accommodate both passenger and commercial vehicles, and have dedicated walking and cycling lanes. The project also includes the construction of connecting roadways on the north and south sides of the bridge, grade separations on Highway 17, and the removal of the existing bridge once the new bridge is complete.

Reporting to the Project Manager or designate, the Bridge Deck Superintendent is responsible to provide leadership, supervision and able to coordinate day to day field operations. This includes ensuring the safety of crew members, ensuring the productivity of crew members, following OH&S and Company policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Superintendent is a key participant in the relationship between the company, the workforce, other contractors, the client, and all other project stakeholders. The Superintendent is required to act in a professional manner that will strengthen these relationships in a positive way. This Superintendent will work a rotational night shift on a bi-weekly basis. This project is located in Surrey, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote, lead and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with the projects Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
  • Track and report project, quality control, resource requirements
  • Drive quality, efficiency and productivity of work crews.
  • Direct Foremen on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the Foreman and crews to overcome challenges.
  • Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Superintendent, Foreman and crews perform to meet production goals.
  • Assist the Foreman to translate drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirecting crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to identify equipment and labour resource requirements.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building.
  • Ensure work completed meets quality standards, that preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed.
  • Oversee the approval of daily production records and reporting on work progress, these include:
    • Daily quality control inspections and checklists.
    • Record and report of violations or disciplinary actions.
    • HSE inspections and reports.
    • Project specific forms/inspections/tracking as required.
    • Approving field log each day and ensuring submittal of field log for each Foreman is completed daily.
    • Reviewing field log with the Project manager/Leads to ensure accuracy of phase codes and reported items.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory position in the construction industry with experience in heavy civil infrastructure projects, specifically bridges.
  • 5 plus years of experience with concrete, rebar, and formwork.
  • Bridge deck construction in BC is a plus.
  • Experience working on a large, multi-disciplinary, joint venture team is an asset.
  • Knowledge of WCB & OHS British Columbia legislation.
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must have a valid Drivers License.
  • Ability to work the project schedule which may include night shifts and weekends.

The expected pay range for this position is $140,000 - $160,000.
