About Us
As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP, SMRX Project). Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.


Reporting to the Director, Project Controls with a dotted line to the SMRX Project Director, the Planning Manager is responsible for planning project management activities, analyzing financial information to keep projects on track and collaborating with different teams to define prioritize and develop project schedules.


What is the Opportunity?

  • Key partner to Project Managers, Project Directors, and Construction Teams.
  • Planning Project Management, including setting deadlines, prioritizing tasks and assigning team members to various deliverables.
  • Collaborating with other project teams to define prioritize and develop project schedules.
  • Review Agreed work packages (Construction Work packages) as basis for definition of level III schedule activities.
  • Develop level II & level III Resource loaded schedules.
  • Identify the main Critical Path along with Sub Critical versions & Perform regular Critical Path analyses.
  • Solid understanding of the overall WBS program to ensure compliance with the alliance procedures & processes developed to monitor project schedules, project performance and project reporting.
  • Strong understanding of Earned Value techniques and their application through the various phases of the project (Engineering, Procurement, Execution, Commissioning, Close out).
  • Reconcile WBS/CBS & OBS coding Structures.
  • Detailed review and analysis of project performance and reporting to explain key metrics (with focus on SPI indicators, key commodity tracking, etc.).
  • Provide variance narratives and propose workaround options to the project leadership team.
  • Develop Schedule Impact Analysis when changes are identified. Update Current schedule, perform rebaseline when required.
  • Maintain detailed baseline or schedule change logs to ensure integrity of the performance measurement baseline.
  • Align Aecon expectations with the program alliance in order to successfully incorporate progress data into the alliance reporting/decision making models.
  • Perform Schedule quality Analysis (Using Acumen Fuse metrics).
  • Perform Schedule Risk Analysis through QSRA approach.
  • Update staffing Plan on a regular basis.
  • Review and evaluate trends and their impact on project schedules.
  • Support the change management process and registers.
  • Identify Fragnets when possible, to be carried out throughout the project lifecycle, across the different phases and to be transitioned to the next units/similar scopes when required.
  • Perform regular field tours to check work progress and meet with project site personnel.
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvement.
  • Help evaluate and document processes and procedures to be followed by project teams.


What You Bring to the Table:

  • 8+ years of experience in a related role.
  • Post-secondary education in engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience on an EPC project is an asset.
  • Highly self-motivated team player with a participative management style and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Results oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • People oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff and clients.
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator with superior interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment.
