Administrative Support V - Drug Access Coordinator

The Drug Access Coordinator (DAC) is responsible for managing the planning, coordination, facilitation, and implementation of DAC activities at the tertiary cancer centre and works with CCA staff in the Regional and Community Cancer Centres. The DAC is responsible for assisting patients to access and maintenance of prescription drugs, on compassionate grounds, that are not covered under the Alberta Outpatient Cancer Drug Benefit Program but are required for supportive cancer treatment and/or care through some face to face but mostly virtual contacts. The DAC ensures that resources are identified and are utilized provincially. The DAC will focus on identifying and creating newer resources that they access and ongoing utilization, liaise with pharmaceutical companies, and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Investigate drugs on compassionate grounds for Patient Care Investigates un-funded, non-formulary cancer drug requests/referrals made by physicians Compiles and maintain a list of requests, drugs, respective contacts, and company processes Explores options for funding of cancer medications and /or services and determines coverage required to facilitate a successful outcome Completes necessary forms, including additional required documentation (e.g. pathology reports, etc.) Assists physicians in applying for and maintaining patients on PSP programs, including populating forms & follow up appointments Patient Care Coordinates and completes applications for outpatient cancer medications & supportive care drugs Verifies eligibility for patient benefits, coverage options and confirms outcome Coordinates confirmation to proceed with treatment with private infusional centre according to protocol delivery and ensures appropriate post-care follow-up is scheduled. Program Development/Coordination as well as Evaluation and Data Management.

As an Administrative Support V, you will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, practices and initiatives within a department or program.

Completion of post-secondary education (e.g. certificate in office or business administration).

Medical Terminology is required. Pharmaceutical knowledge is required. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as an Administrative Assistant IV/V or project assistant in a healthcare setting or hospital environment working with an interdisciplinary team. Strong working knowledge of electronic medical record system EPIC/Connect Care, MS Excel/MS office and management of databases is required.

Other healthcare role education and experience preferred. Working within an oncology (tertiary) setting for a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience preferred. Highly independent work. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent working knowledge of cancer treatments and health systems infrastructure.
