The Organ Donor Coordinator facilitates and coordinates the donation process including offering the family an opportunity to choose donation, coordinating the assessment and management of the potential donor, facilitating organ allocation and recovery, and providing donor family follow-up and support. The position responsibilities are diverse with incumbents requiring specialized knowledge in critical care and organ donation procedures. Coordinates practice with significant independence and autonomy, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support quality care. Organ Donor Coordinators assume various administration roles to support organ and tissue donation. These functions include program development, education/professional development, project coordination, policy and procedure development, quality assurance, research and patient related administration. NOTE: There is significant after-hours on-call requirements.

As a Donor Recipient Coordinator at the University of Alberta Hospital, you will take the lead role in coordinating patients (clients, residents) and families in the process from pre-transplant to post-transplant care. You will work collaboratively within an interprofessional team to support and provide quality, individually tailored care that enables all aspects of the transplant process, including specialized education for patients and staff attending the transplant clinic. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). A minimum of 5 years of intensive care unit (ICU) experience within the last 7 years, or current organ donation coordinator experience. Demonstrated clinical competence in assessment, care provision and planning, exceptional communication skills. Strong interpersonal, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Effective time management and organizational skills. Must be able to work in a strong vibrant setting as a team player. Ability to work independently - use own initiative and be self-directed. Must be able to lift organ coolers (weighing up to 50lbs each) and push a cart with multiple coolers and other supplies. Computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
