Under the supervision of the Eating Disorder Manager, and in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, the Registered Nurse - Calgary Eating Disorder Program will act as a primary care provider and utilize the Nursing process in delivering professional Nursing care to individuals who have an eating disorder and their families. This will include utilizing professional knowledge, technical skills, interpersonal skills, and clinical judgment. The Registered Nurse will participate in the provision of education and treatment in both individual and group formats. Primary responsibilities include medical monitoring of patients, and assessment, as well as group therapy and meal support therapy. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Experience dealing with the medical complications that could arise with eating disorders and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. Must have skills in psychiatric, and medical assessment and crisis intervention. Strong team skills, initiative, motivation, and self-starter. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families, and team members. Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team.

3 - 5 years recent experience in acute inpatient or outpatient psychiatry, preferable with patients who have an eating disorder, and their families. Experience in group therapy. Experience with complex comorbid mental health, particularly with adults.
