Description
Reporting to the manager of Day Procedures, the LPN provides safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and procedures and CLPNA standards. Working within the full scope of practice, the LPN will work with patient's pre/post procedure endoscopy, minor surgery, cataracts, and diagnostic imaging procedures. The LPN observes, monitors, reports and documents changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state. Assists the patients with ADL's and provides the patient and family with relevant information and teaching. The LPN is responsible to collaborate as a member of the health care team, delivering consistent quality care to meet the needs of the patient
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Must be current with CLPNA licensing, as well as AHS and Day Procedures modules and competencies. Must complete and pass the procedural sedation module exam. 2-3 years of recent surgical experience. Must be able to adapt to fluctuating workloads, self-directed, organized, able to prioritize and have excellent communication skills (both for patient teaching and working as part of a team). Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time, push, pull and lift >20lbs. Demonstrates effective critical thinking skills, must be respectful, tactful and courteous in behavior. If applicant has another position, must be 0.6 FTE or lower so they can pick up at least 1 shift every 2 weeks to keep up clinical competencies in the department.
1-2 years Day Procedures experience, prep and recovery of cataract and diagnostic imaging patients and patients who have had procedural sedation. Also, an asset to have connect care training in Day Surgery, PACU, ambulatory minor procedures, Day Medicine IV therapy and endoscopy pre and post procedure.
