This position is based at the Adult Addiction and Mental Health Community Clinic located in the Provincial Building in Medicine Hat. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and dynamic individual to work with adult clients from Medicine Hat and the surrounding area. If you are passionate about providing excellent short-term addiction and mental health counseling in a community setting, this could be the ideal career opportunity for you. In your practice, you will need to employ a range of evidence-based treatment modalities, using trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches with clients who are dealing with addictions and mental health issues. This may include individual and group counselling. This position will be working with clients on inpatient Unit 5 North and at Stabilization and Transition Clinic in Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews, and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Registered Occupational Therapists.

Completion of a master's degree in psychology; a bachelor's degree in social work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention; a master's or bachelor's degree in occupational therapy with similar educational components; a bachelor's degree in nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling; or a bachelor's degree in psychiatric nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

At least two years of experience working with vulnerable populations, preferably in addiction and/or mental health settings. Experience in group facilitation is expected.

A certification in suicide prevention (Suicide Prevention & Risk Assessment management https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/page14579.aspx) and Trauma informed care (Trauma Training Initiative https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/page15526.aspx) is a significant asset. Courses and certifications in addictions and mental health or from PACES (https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/Page16083.aspx) will be an asset.
