This position works from the Counselling Services at Medicine Hat College and Adult Addiction and Mental Health Community Clinic located at the Provincial Building in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The Mental Health Therapist works mostly with college learners in a community setting. This position is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and dynamic individual to work as a Mental Health Therapist with College learners and adult clients in community. As a Mental Health Therapist working out of two locations, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of evidence-based counselling approaches to adults experiencing mental health issues. Working both independently and as a team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Strong knowledge of the addictions and mental health systems resources within Recovery Alberta - South Zone, and populations served. At least 2 years of previous counselling experience in Addiction and Mental Health Current registration with one of the following regulatory colleges: ACOT, ACSW, CAP, CLPNA, CRNA or CRPNA is a must. Applicants with bachelor's degree and strong experience in addictions and mental health could be considered. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Three years’ experience in Addiction and Mental Health or equivalent services required with five years related services preferred. Non-violent crisis intervention and suicide intervention training.
