Description
As a Recreation Therapist I you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient and family-centered, and in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards of practice. You will be responsible for completing assessments, treatments, leisure education, and evaluation of programs for your areas, as well as participating in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team, which will include Therapy Assistants and Volunteers to ensure patient goals are met.

You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.
Baccalaureate in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies Active or eligibility for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association
Experience in clinical or rehabilitation setting is required. Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Demonstrated knowledge & competency with therapeutic recreation professional standards of practice, best available evidence/research, assessments, client-centered treatment plans, identifying outcomes, individual and group treatment interventions, evaluation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and documentation. Effective organizational/time management skills. Basic vs intermediate knowledge of computer and software applications (i.e., Microsoft Office & Teams). Creates innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Demonstrated commitment to and participation in activities, which promote professional and personal growth and development. Actively integrates patient and family-centered principles into own clinical practice. Effective communication with a patient-centered focus. Demonstrating behaviors consistent with the values of AHS: compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety. A high level of physical effort (60-70%) is related to clinical caseload. The therapist may be required to maintain a standing position with lifting, bending, and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic recreation interventions. A high degree of concurrent mental effort (70-80%) is required for clinical decision making. Excellent attendance record, reliability & personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references.
Experience with standardized assessment tools and Connect Care is an asset. Experience with aquatic therapy is an asset. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation is an asset.
