Senior Consultant - Supporting Equitable Access to Cancer Care

Have you ever wanted to be part of improving access to care for patients in Alberta? Do you have experience with change management, complex stakeholder engagement and leading teams? If so, this opportunity in Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) is for you. An important part of the project team, the Senior Consultant, Supporting Equitable Access to Cancer Care provides strategic change management leadership and oversight for activities associated with the development and implementation of a provincial intake assessment for CCA. The provincial intake assessment is aimed at identifying barriers to care in the patient’s cancer journey, to get them connected to supports and services as early as possible. This position will also be responsible for the development and implementation of an education plan for staff and development of bi-directional resource pathways with community partners who support marginalized patient populations across the province. The position works closely with the Applied Research & Patient Experience team within CCA to support the practice change required to implement staff-wide education aimed at improving cultural safety and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusive cancer care practices.

Patients may experience a multitude of intersecting barriers to care based on socioeconomic status, structural vulnerability and inherent inequities in the cancer care system. Existing disparities in cancer outcomes for certain populations are unacceptable, making equitable cancer care a high priority both across Canada and within Alberta. This project seeks to enable equitable cancer care by facilitating the ability to tailor additional supports and resources for those patients who need them. Leveraging Connect Care functionality, a standardized intake assessment will facilitate the identification of individual patient needs. By partnering with AHS/CCA and community resources, services and programs, this assessment will enable care pathways to be activated which offer additional support to patients to overcome their barriers to accessing cancer care. Working with the Applied Research & Patient Experience team in CCA, the Senior Consultant for the Supporting Equitable Access to Cancer Care project will provide strategic change management leadership and oversight for activities associated with the development and implementation of the provincial intake assessment for CCA. This position will also be responsible for the development of bi-directional resource pathways with community partners who support marginalized patient populations across the province. The position works closely with the multiple key stakeholders within CCA to support the practice change required to implement staff-wide education aimed at improving cultural safety and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusive cancer care practices.

Minimum undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or Business Administration. Minimum 5 years project or change management experience, preferably in the Health Care environment. Requires strategic and organizational leadership skills.

Experience working with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and/or equity-deserving populations. Experience in quality and process improvement methodology such as PROSCI, Lean, Six Sigma, AIW. Proficiency in Word, Visio, Excel, Power Point. Excellent interpersonal, coaching skills, consultation and negotiating skills. Proven effective communication and presentation skills, analytical skills, and problem-solving skills. Requires strategic and organizational leadership skills.

Registered Nursing background is an asset. Oncology Certification and experience.
