Are you interested in using your specialized skills to support Albertan’s fighting cancer? An exciting opportunity exists to grow your skills and join a dynamic team within the Cross Cancer Centre (CCI). The CCI is a leading comprehensive cancer facility, in providing cancer services for Edmonton and Northern Alberta. Reporting to the Unit Managers of Inpatients, the Unit Clerk (UC) supporting patients in an inpatient setting throughout the cancer care continuum. The UC is responsible for delivering high quality patient care and customer service. It is essential that in this position the representative must be able to make independent decisions, work under minimal supervision, able to handle conflict and difficult situations, as well as have a high level of problem-solving skills to meet the needs of our patients and clinicians. You will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients, and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. The UC is responsible for performing clerical, receptionist and booking duties for the unit, that includes performing admission, discharge/transfer functions, answering telephone calls, using the call bell system, and monitoring unit and patient access. As the key point of first contact on inpatient areas, you will play a key role in fostering an effective team environment on the unit. The UC is an essential team member when unit emergencies arise and will be responsible for paging of physicians and other tasks to support the team. This is a fast-paced environment, requiring the UC to adapt to workload changes by utilizing communication skills and knowledge to promptly report needs and changes as required. As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Minimum one year Unit Clerk experience. Able to work in a fast-paced environment with continuous interruptions, noise, and changing demands. Able to lift, push, or pull more than 35 pounds. Bending, lifting, walking long distances at times as well as long periods of sitting is required. Computer keyboarding skills and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to prioritize and manage stress. Must be able to have difficult conversations with patients, other staff and visitors. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Experience in an Inpatient department. Experience in Oncology/Hematology department. Experience with Connect Care.
