Description
Within clinic protocols and scope of practice, under general supervision and reporting to the Unit Manager, the Unit Clerk provides clerical and organizational support to the Orthopaedic Clinic. As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families, while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. This position performs a variety of clerical duties, most of which include being proficient with Connect Care, appointment scheduling, telephone and written correspondence, filing and transmission of information. This position involves being responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit. Books patient appointments appropriately, balancing provider and patient requests with efficient clinic operations. Acts as the first contact for patients and clinicians attending clinic. Directs calls and inquiries to the appropriate person in a timely manner. Work collaboratively with the Unit Manager and clinic staff. Clinic/Surgeon schedule management.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
A Unit Clerk Certificate or Diploma or equivalent work experience. Heart and Stroke Foundation Health Care Provider Level C CPR certification is required. Intermediate computer skills are required. Critical thinking skills are required. A minimum of two years of recent experience working as a Unit Clerk in an acute care or ambulatory setting is required.
Connect Care trained. Experience working Connect Care will be considered an asset. Unit Clerk Certification.
