Job Summary

The Supervisor, Packaging Technical is responsible for the supervision of the Packaging Maintenance team ensuring that all work performed is in compliance with Safe Work Practices, cGMP, Standard Operating Procedures, and company policies. As part of the Packaging Technical Services leadership team, the main focus is responsibility for day-to-day Packaging Maintenance activities, developing systems and measurements to evaluate equipment and employee individual performance and contribution and lead initiatives (e.g. reliability) to facilitate improved productivity.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide results-oriented leadership that drives continuous improvement, consistent with the Engineering/Operations Strategic Plan.
  • Co-ordinate, assign, supervise and review all Maintenance activities and outcomes for Mechanical and Electrical Technicians to ensure Packaging equipment is in ‘as new or better’ condition.
  • Develop systems and metrics to measure and evaluate both productivity and individual performance and contribution on an on-going basis.
  • Use systems and metrics to guide the initiation and execution of safety, quality, productivity and continuous improvement initiatives in support of the Engineering Strategic Plan.
  • Develop and support continuous improvement and proactive activities within a maintenance environment including minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Execute the Maintenance Strategy according to plan, through clear communication, meeting timelines and engaging the team at all levels while ensuring minimal disruption to the Packaging schedule.
  • Responsible for driving the key SAP maintenance metrics of proactive maintenance; PM compliance, schedule adherence, breakdowns, backlog and reliability.
  • Ensures the Packaging Technical team is aligned to all departmental and corporate strategic initiatives.
  • Provide strong leadership as a member of the Packaging Technical leadership team, building and maintaining positive relationships with key business partners within and outside of the department.
  • Provide recommendations to management regarding procedural and organizational changes.
  • Responsible for the resolution of all employee issues within the department with the involvement of the next level of management and human resources as required.
  • Act as a specialized Engineering resource to senior management to support resolution of complex technical and equipment related issues.
  • Serve as departmental representative in the absence of the department manager.
  • Utilize open, honest, two way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.
  • Recruits, trains, develops and manages effectively the ongoing performance of their direct reports. Ensure all Job Descriptions for direct reports are periodically reviewed, signed and stored according to our global job description processes.
  • Review and update development plans, ensure that all direct reports are properly trained and qualified according to our Global Training and Employee Qualification Enterprise Policy.
  • Effectively manage performance for direct reports. Schedule regular one-on-one meetings, probationary performance reviews and mid-year performance discussions.
  • Attract and retain talent based on our talent management framework.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback and recognition based on the expected behaviors, job description and performance on objectives.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance of team members (direct reports) with the Global Business Ethics and Compliance Program, Global Quality procedures, Safety and Environment policies, and HR policies.
  • Leads with a global mindset that respects all cultural dimensions.
  • Performs all work in accordance with our Code of Conduct and Business Ethics, and all established regulatory, compliance and safety requirements.

Job Requirements
  • Education
    • Engineering degree - postsecondary degree or Diploma
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated leadership experience, particularly in the areas of approachability, dealing with direct reports, managing diversity and setting goals and objectives and measuring performance
    • Ability to demonstrate a high level of numerical, statistics, and trending skills;
    • Previous experience in the Food, Consumer Packaged Goods or Pharmaceutical industry an asset;
    • Ability to demonstrate a high level of numerical, statistics, and trending skills;
    • Proven experience in complex technical problem solving;
    • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office programs and exposure to CMMS program (SAP an asset)
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment;
    • Ability to work within a team environment (as part of a team) as demonstrated through previous work experience;
    • Ability to motivate self and others;
    • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Experience
    • 5 years experience in a relevant technical field
    • 3 - 5 years supervisory experience
    • Previous experience in Food, Consumer Packaged Goods, or Pharmaceutical industry an asset
