The Ministry of Children and Family Development promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth and supports healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in BC. The Ministry is responsible for regional and province wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.

This position evaluates the functioning of child welfare and other programs and practices and examines whether the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s (ministry) mandate has been properly and credibly carried out relative to legislation, policy, and standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work OR Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care OR Master of Arts in Clinical/Counselling Psychology or Master’s Degree in Education/Counseling in conjunction with child welfare/family service work experience OR
  • Other relevant equivalent combinations of education (Bachelor’s Degree or higher) and experience may be considered (e.g., Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field with job-specific work experience). Human Services fields include Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing AND
    • Five years with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, or an Indigenous Child and Family Services Agency, or equivalent delegated agency with increasing responsibilities which reflect the depth and breadth of their experience in one or more of the following service areas: child protection and family services; guardianship, adoption, and permanency; youth services; children and youth with support needs; child and youth mental health; and community youth justice AND
    • Experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). Confirmation for equivalency for your degree is required for you to be considered. Please indicate in your resume (include a copy of the approval; if in progress), proof must be provided on or by the closing date of the posting to the hiring manager. You must request comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report to be considered for this competition.


PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING:

  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Child safety experience and/or children & youth with support needs experience.
  • Six (6) or more years of experience in child safety (intake, family service, guardianship, resources, community youth justice, child and youth mental health, adoptions, child and youth with support needs).
  • Master of Social Work degree or Master of Arts in Child and Youth Care degree.
  • One (1) or more years of experience as team lead, policy analyst, practice analyst or provincial practice consultant.


WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS:

  • This role includes reviewing and analyzing content that may be unpleasant and emotionally charged including critical injuries, fatalities, and current and historical trauma of children/youth.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restrictions or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
  • This position may be required to travel throughout the province; therefore, transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Ministry.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
