Job Summary

The Team
The Child Care Modelling and Analysis (CCMA) team consists of nine Economists, along with two managers and a director, dedicated to providing reporting, forecasting, modeling, and analytical support for the Ministry's child care programs. As an established team, CCMA collaborates closely with other branches in the Child Care Division-such as Policy, Finance, and Operations-offering valuable expertise. CCMA is recognized for its intelligent and insightful economists, whose expertise is highly valued across the division and the team won a PSA award for Top Work Unit in 2024.

The Role
Your work will make a meaningful impact on education and child care in B.C. by advising senior executives on matters directly impacting goals, objectives and financial commitments of the ministry. You will conduct statistical analysis in a dynamic data environment, contribute expertise in economic modeling and forecasting projects and support decision-makers in making informed, data-driven choices that shape the future of child care in BC. The Child Care programs aim to return millions of dollars to families, improving child care access and affordability. This position offers the opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on the lives of families in the province.


Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Economics or a specialized field of economics such as Economic Development, Financial Economics, International Economics, or an equivalent Master’s Degree or PhD in a closely related field such as Statistics or Mathematics.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in each the following:
    • Designing and implementing statistical analysis and economic modelling projects.
    • Analyzing complex problems from an economic perspective.
    • Managing complex projects for multiple clients on tight deadlines.
    • Providing clear, understandable, expert advice to senior executives.
    • Using spreadsheets, large datasets, relational databases, and associated data processing applications, such as R, Python, SAS or SQL.

Preference may be given to applicants with

  • Experience using the results of data analysis and data modeling to make recommendations to inform government decision-making.
  • Proficiency in R.

Remote work is allowed. This position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved telework agreement.
