Job Summary

The Strategic Innovation Division is located on the beautiful and traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən People, in particular the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations. The Team
The Climate Resilience Unit within the Health System Transformation Branch leads the charge in building a more climate-resilient health sector for British Columbia. Established in 2022, the Climate Resilience Unit includes a director, two senior policy analysts, and a specialist, all dedicated to promoting health actions under the Provincial Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy. Working closely with health authorities, provincial and federal agencies, Indigenous partners, and academic organizations, the team’s work contributes to a healthier and more sustainable future for British Columbia. This is a group of forward-thinking leaders who are passionate about integrating climate resilience into health policy and practice.

The Role
As the Senior Policy Analyst, you will lead strategic policy and projects aimed at strengthening health system climate resilience and improving the health of British Columbians in response to climate change. As part of the first dedicated climate team within a provincial Ministry of Health in Canada, this is an exciting opportunity to work in an innovative and rapidly growing field. This position plays a key role in supporting health system transformation, contributing to a broader approach to building a healthy, sustainable, and climate-resilient future for British Columbia.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public administration, health sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences or a related field and 2 years of related experience; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, health sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences or a related field and 3 years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in public administration, health sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences or a related field and 4 years related experience; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in public administration, health sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences or a related field and 5 years related experience.

* Recent related experience must include:

  • Experience in planning and coordinating complex projects/assignments
  • Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content

Preference may be given to candidates with the following experience:

  • Experience in the development of legislation, regulation and policy.
  • Experience working in climate adaptation/preparedness
  • Experience working in climate mitigation and/or sustainability.
  • Experience working in the health sector.
  • Experience with Indigenous and partner engagement.
  • Experience working with relevant legislation and/or regulatory frameworks in B.C., e.g., Climate Change Accountability Act, Emergency and Disaster Management Act.

Preference will be given to applicants who self identify as Indigenous (e.g., First Nations, Métis or Inuit).

  • In recognitions of the critical importance to this role of a lived understanding of Indigenous communities, history, values and cultural competencies, the above preference statement will be applied in the final ranked order for those who self-identify as Indigenous throughout the hiring process.
