Job Summary

The Team
Working at the Building and Safety Standards Branch, you'll be part of a dedicated team responsible for establishing and maintaining technical regulations for buildings and technical systems. This team collaborates closely with industry, local governments, and other key partners to ensure a robust and effective regulatory framework. Your work will help shape the safety and quality of buildings across the province, fostering important relationships and providing expert advice to support the regulatory systems that protect our communities.

The Role
As the Senior Codes Administrator, you will provide technical research and analysis related to the governance framework of building regulatory and safety systems, focusing on the B.C. Building, Plumbing, Fire, and Safety Codes. You’ll play a key role in supporting industry, local governments, and other stakeholders in understanding and applying these codes. This position involves leading significant projects, managing stakeholder consultations, and developing training programs, all of which directly impact the safety and quality of buildings and systems that serve our communities.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, technical diploma or trade certification/Red Seal Endorsement in a related field or a Certified Building Official with recognized British Columbia designation (e.g. RBO, BCQ or CRBO) and five (5) years related experience OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience in planning, developing, implementing, analyzing and evaluating technical proposals.
  • Experience in developing technical regulations and policies.
  • Experience leading diverse multi-stakeholder groups in the development of policy, technical requirements, discussion papers, etc.
  • Research experience.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following experience:

  • Experience working as or with government officials.
  • Project management training and experience.
  • Experience preparing and/or delivering technical education.
  • Experience working with energy codes and standards.
  • Experience working with climate policy.
  • Experience working with earthquake design codes and standards.

About this Position:
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is a temporary opportunity until June 28, 2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.
A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
