Job Summary

The Team
Join our Financial Reporting and Advisory Services (FRAS) team, where you'll be part of an established group dedicated to ensuring transparent and accurate financial reporting for the province. As a Financial Accountant, you'll work within a supportive team, each focusing on different sectors under the guidance of the Manager, Social Sector. Our team values diversity and inclusion, bringing together various professionals like Financial Accountants, Senior Financial Analysts, and CPA students to provide expert advice, develop business solutions, and maintain the highest standards in financial reporting. The Role
In this role, you will provide expert accounting advice and direction to support strategic decision-making and planning for government entities, Crown corporations, and other agencies. You'll be instrumental in developing and recommending improvements to finance practices, evaluating the impact of various initiatives, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies. By preparing critical financial statements and reports, including the Public Accounts, you'll play a key role in upholding transparency and accountability for the Provincial Government. This position offers a unique opportunity to advance your professional accounting career within the BC Public Service, contributing to impactful financial management and public service excellence.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Professional Accounting Designation, CPA (CA, CGA, CMA) registered in a Canadian province or territory. (Note: If your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through an applicable Canadian Accounting Association.)
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience with intermediate/senior accounting responsibility for preparation of a variety of routine and ad hoc financial reports and/or financial statements, notes, and schedules.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining policies and procedures that will ensure that financial reports are timely, accurate, consistent and meet reporting requirements.
  • Experience in Business case analysis and financial statement preparation and analysis.
  • Experience using Mainframe applications and a wide range of personal computer software, e.g. complex spreadsheets, project management, presentation and word processing.
  • Experience in multi-partner projects.
  • Experience in Project Management.
