Job Summary

The Team
As part of our newly formed team within Provincial Operations and the Prep and Response within Fire Centres, you'll be working alongside the Superintendent Wildfire Preparedness, Manager Provincial Operations Preparedness, and Fire Center and Zone staff, to enhance wildfire preparedness across BC. Our team collaborates closely with other agencies and departments, offering new opportunities to make a real impact on wildfire response. The Role
As the Planning Officer, Wildfire Preparedness, you will lead the development of contingency plans and play a key part in joint operational planning, collaborating with communities, government partners, and stakeholders on wildfire response efforts. Although this is a provincial-level position, the Planning Officer will work closely with regional (Zone and Fire Centre, District and BC Parks) staff with a strong focus on collaborative delivery with the organization’s partners, including First Nations, forest licensees, and other stakeholders.You'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping to protect communities and enhance BC's wildfire preparedness. This is an exciting chance to work on innovative solutions and build strong partnerships in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management);OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and training may be considered; AND
  • 2 or more years’ experience working in a natural resource discipline; AND
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project ;AND
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders and leading consultation sessions; AND
  • Experience implementing provincial land management planning processes.

  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
