Job Summary

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Role
This role involves quality assessing contract work, developing and monitoring contracts, ensuring timber sale license harvest compliance, and conducting road inspections. With tasks like digital data entry and monitoring harvest conformance, your work will support communities by enabling sustainable forestry practices and generating local revenue. Qualifications:

  • Graduation with a diploma or a degree in resource or forestry management.
  • Registered with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or Registered Professional Forester (RPF) AND a minimum of two years of experience in operational field forestry activities, OR
  • Enrolled, or eligible for immediate enrollment, with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP) as a forest professional in training (TFT, ASTFT, FIT, ASFIT), for the purpose of obtaining an RFT or RPF designation AND a minimum of four years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
  • Operational field forestry activities include one or more of the following:
    • Timber harvesting cut-block development
    • Forest road engineering
    • Silviculture
    • Harvest operations
    • Compliance and enforcement
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Applicants with specific forestry activities experience, such as timber harvesting cut-block development, forest road engineering, silviculture and/or harvest operations.
  • Applicants with contract administration experience.

Provisos:

  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
  • Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and/or rotary winged aircraft and/or watercraft.
  • Must be able to maintain membership with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP) as a member in good standing.

About this Position:
There are currently three (3) positions available: One (1) on the silviculture team; one (1) on the harvesting team; and one (1) on the engineering team.
These position(s) can be located in Williams Lake or Quesnel.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
An eligibility list may be established for similar vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Cariboo Chilcotin Business Area (Williams Lake, Quesnel)
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
