Job Summary

The Team
Join our collaborative and experienced Authorizations Team at Coast Mountains Resource District, where we’re committed to thorough permit application reviews and forest resource management. Our small but dynamic team of three works closely with other teams across the Skeena Region, including specialists in appraisals, permitting, tenure management, and First Nations consultation. Your role will be integral to ensuring that our forests benefit the province and future generations.

The Role
As a Senior Authorizations Technologist with the Coast Mountains Resource District, you'll play a vital role in maintaining forest safety and ensuring permit applications are processed efficiently, enabling economic development and responsible forest use. Your responsibilities will include managing information systems, reviewing permits, and offering professional recommendations to decision-makers, while contributing to a learning-focused environment. This position provides an exciting opportunity to build strong professional relationships, develop key skills, and access pathways to higher roles in the forestry sector, all while making a meaningful impact on both the community and B.C.'s public service.

Qualifications:
Education

Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Applicants who do not meet the RFT requirement may be considered at a lower classification on the condition they are working toward their RFT designation with FPBC and obtain the RFT requirement for this position within 12 months. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.

  • Diploma in natural resource management or a related field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience and Requirements

  • Related experience working in natural resource management.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence, or equivalent.


Preference may be given for one (1) or more of the following:

  • Operational forestry experience (e.g., forest harvesting, tenures administration, authorizations/permitting, appraisals, timber cruising, waste and residue, etc.).
  • Contract management experience.
  • Experience with First Nations’ consultation and engagement.

Provisos

  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment (e.g., quads, snow machines, 4X4 vehicles).
  • Must be willing and able to do field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to overnight or extended stay in camp conditions.

About this Position
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position that can be located in Burns Lake, Hazelton, Houston, Smithers, or Terrace.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
