Job Summary

The Team

The Water Authorizations Group, part of the larger West Coast Water Management Team, is an established and diverse group of 17 dedicated professionals committed to the sustainable management of water resources under the Water Sustainability Act. Our team is made up of water officers and technicians from various disciplines who work together to process water licence applications and to support provincial drought and flood response efforts. We value a supportive environment where staff share knowledge and expertise to work collaboratively toward responsible water management in British Columbia.

The Role

As a Supervisor of Water Officers, you'll lead a dedicated team working on water licence applications under the Water Sustainability Act, providing vital advice to staff and clients. Your role involves engaging with First Nations, local governments, and other agencies on water management projects and leading drought response efforts. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to sustainable water use across British Columbia, working alongside professionals who are passionate about water sustainability and providing essential services to a diverse range of clients. Your work will help ensure responsible water management for agriculture, industry, and communities.


Qualifications:
Education and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in the resource management field, plus 2 years of related experience; OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree in the resource management field, plus 3 years of related experience; OR
  • A Diploma in the resource management field, plus 5 years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Related experience must include:

  • Experience in negotiating and consulting with stakeholders and First Nations in natural resource management.
  • Comprehensive experience (field/office) working in natural resource management.
  • Experience supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes (i.e. the Water Sustainability Act) that support natural resource management relating to water allocation and management.
  • Direct experience in hydrology or hydrogeology principals for the purposes of sustainable resource management.
  • Experience collaborating and seeking consensus with First Nations on water management decisions in BC.
  • Experience leading and supervising professional staff within natural resource management.

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
