Description
The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Nursing is a self-regulated profession governed through the College. A nurse is responsible for practicing in accordance with the standards of the profession, and for keeping current and competent throughout his/her nursing career (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2009).
• Minimum two (2) years recent experience caring for patients and families in an oncology setting - preferred
• Completion of the de Souza Institute Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Facilitator courses - preferred or completion within six months is required
• Completion of the de Souza Patient Navigation (PNON) or completion within two years of hire is required
• Certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario - required
• Current member of RNAO -preferred
• Certification of Oncology Nursing Canada - preferred
• Active CANO membership - preferred
• In-depth knowledge of cancer care, including both clinical and supportive care.
• In-depth knowledge of local and provincial cancer services.
• Knowledgeable about oncology drug protocols and how/ where to access this info
• Ability to understand the impact of the cancer experience; knowledgeable and skilled in guiding, educating and supporting the patient and family throughout the continuum of care from diagnosis to survivorship to palliative care/ end-of-life
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with patients, family members and other health care providers exhibiting characteristics of warmth, empathy, humour, and a non-judgmental philosophy of care.
• Demonstrated competence in team building, conflict management, and effective communications.
• Demonstrated leadership skills including effective decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Proven organizational and priority setting skills.
• Ability to be innovative and creative in order to develop strategies that successfully meet the needs of a diverse patient, family and provider populations.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as an effective team member.
• Demonstrated commitment and contribution to continuous improvement and innovation.
• Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and sensitivity and organizational health.
• Perform comprehensive health and symptoms assessment in keeping with the standards of practice and Cancer Care Ontario
• Provide patient education or refer patients to the most appropriate source of information and education
• Interprofessional collaboration to ensure continuity of care through key transitions points in the cancer care journey
• Assists in the coordination of care and problem-solves situations involving complex patient care needs
• Facilitates access to the cancer system for members of culturally diverse communities and vulnerable populations
• Provides emotional and psychological support as needed within their professional scope
• Engages in caring and therapeutic relationships with individuals with cancer and their families throughout the cancer journey and adjusts interventions in changing physical and psychosocial-spiritual responses.
Selection will be made on the basis of skill, ability, experience and qualifications as per Article 10.07 of the ONA collective Agreement
