Manager, Taxation - (Corporate Tax / Banking Industry)

The Bank of Montreal “BMO”, one of Canada’s leading financial institutions, is currently seeking a Manager, Taxation to join its tax group in Toronto (100 King St. W) to support its capital markets pillar.

The ideal candidate will

• Act as a trusted tax advisor on Canadian and foreign income tax matters to the capital markets pillar.

• Assist in the development of strategic plans.

• Identify emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.

• Perform research based on current and proposed income tax legislation, regulations and guidelines.

• Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

• Monitor compliance with tax policies, procedures and controls to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial information.

• Review business-initiated transactions, to ensure tax risks are assessed, mitigated and communicated as appropriate.

• Execute work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service.

• Provide no tax advice directly or indirectly to particular customers or employees of BMO Financial Group

• Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.

• Work independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.

• Accept broader work or accountabilities that may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

• 5 years of relevant experience and/or certification in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Professional designation preferred e.g. CPA, LLB.

• Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.

• Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth.

• Collaboration & team skills - In-depth.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills - In-depth.

• Influence skills - In-depth.

• Data driven decision making - In-depth.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
