This role has a dual mandate to: 1) build and run a monthly analysis of net interest margin to support our understanding of changes in margin; 2) build balance forecast models in QRM to support the execution of stress testing and forecasting.

For 1) build and run a monthly analysis of net interest margin to support our understanding of changes in margin:

  • Develops a total bank margin Excel-based model pulling in actuals information from internal reporting, methodologies, strategies, and source systems.
  • This model is to explain period-over-period changes in deposit, loan, and corporate residual results using drivers such as strategic changes in pricing, disconnects in funds transfer pricing and actual pricing / hedging, market rates, positioning, strategic initiatives, and mix.
  • Driver analysis expected to change over time and require consistent communication with businesses and Treasury partners.
  • The result of this analysis is to inform our understanding of changes in margin including whether changes in funds transfer pricing or hedging are required, quarterly disclosure preparation, and forecasting.

For 2) build balance forecast models in QRM to support the execution of stress testing and forecasting.

  • Work with Quantitative Analytics Team to understand their ending balance projection regression models and build these models into the QRM forecast framework.
  • Work with the product specialist teams in Treasury / Quantitative Analytics Team to understand prepayment models and ensure these models are linked properly to the forecast and functioning correctly.
  • Develop sources for exception products and load these into the QRM forecast strategy for stress testing and forecasting.
  • Analyze balance sheet results and present summary findings linked to the scenario inputs.

For both mandates:

  • Documents data flow, systems and processes to improve the design, implementation and management of business/group processes.
  • Develops tools and delivers training programs for use of reporting tools and self-serve analytics by non-analytical end users; may include delivery of training to audiences.
  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
  • Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

Advanced level of proficiency:

  • Experience with management reporting of revenue and the balance sheet at a large financial institution.
  • Expert knowledge in regression models
  • Expert knowledge in retail and commercial banking products
  • Current experience with QRM considered an asset, but not required
  • Verbal & written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration.
  • Able to manage ambiguity.
  • Data driven decision making.
  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.

Salary:

$84,000.00 - $156,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
