Mechanical Engineering Student - Mine Tailings

The Opportunity:

Exciting opportunity alert! If you're a student keen on diving into the world of mining, our Mine Tailings team is the place to be! Exposed to some of the leading software programs used for equipment reliability, our Tailings facilities at the Albian Oil sands site are world class. You will get hands-on experience in activities relating to operations, maintenance and new reliability initiatives as it relates to a variety of Pumps, engines, drives, dredges and barge equipment. Contributing to optimizing maintenance strategies for our top-notch Mining equipment.

  • Term length: 8 or 12 months

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, AB - Albian Sands
  • Shift schedule: 4 x 3 - 10 hours (Monday - Thursday)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Tailings team in activities relating to operations, maintenance and new reliability initiatives  as it relates to a variety of Pumps, engines, drives, dredges and barge equipment. We possess some of the leading and groundbreaking equipment in this field. 
  • Review and develop standards as it applies to technical information, equipment rebuild, critical spare parts, maintenance strategy and MTTF tracking development . The incumbent will also be part of team for development of modern software tools  used for condition monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Tailings maintenance, reliability , projects and operations.
  • Apply engineering principles to assess, solve and design tailings solutions.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with various disciplines and departments within Mine, Geotechnical, Process Innovation, and Tailings Operations to resolve engineering issues and ensure alignment with operations needs and requirements.
  • Participate in developing and executing testing strategies in the field and lab to treat tailings.
  • Assist senior engineers and team members by gathering field and lab data, creating and maintaining databases, providing modelling support, and assist in producing deliverables.
  • Duties subject to change, pending business needs.
  • Working in validating and modifying engineering documentation as well as leading MOC’s (management of change) for design modifications.

What You Bring to The Role:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor Degree Program in Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous reliability and/or heavy industry experience considered an asset
  • A class 5 driver’s license and a relatively clean driver’s abstract is required for this position. Ability to drive in the mine with no known restrictions.
  • Required to be physically and mentally fit for work
  • A pre-employment drug and alcohol test must be successfully completed
