The opportunityCWB is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Manager, Operational Risk to join our Risk Services team! In this role, you will have the opportunity to craft and implement our Operational Risk Management Framework, ensuring that CWB operates within industry standards and regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Non-Financial Risk Committee, Executive Risk Committee, and Board Risk Committee, you will be responsible for identifying, measuring, monitoring, managing, and reporting operational risk on an enterprise-wide basis. Areas of focusAs the Manager, Operational Risk, you will have the following specific responsibilities and accountabilities:
Contribute to the development and maintenance of an Operational Risk Management Framework for CWB, ensuring the framework is in line with widely recognized industry standards.
Facilitate Operational Risk mitigation activities to ensure CWB operates within its approved Operational Risk Appetite, as determined by the Risk Committee of the Board.
Monitor both the internal and external environments for top and emerging risks that may impact CWB and the financial services industry. Develop and provide appropriate reports to Senior Leadership.
Review and update documentation related to the Operational Risk Management program, including the Operational Risk Management Policy, Standard, Protocols, and related procedure documents.
Develop and conduct group-wide training and communications on operational risk management, encouraging a culture of learning and continuous improvement across the organization.
Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry standards in internal controls and operational risk management, ensuring CWB stays ahead in risk management.
Collaborate with different teams to identify process-level risks specific to each area. Work closely with leaders in each area to develop action plans for reducing identified risks and enhancing controls as needed.
Prepare various reports on CWB's operational risk profile, operational risk appetite, and any significant operational risk issues, including new and emerging risks.
Provide effective second-line challenge to the risk assessments conducted by business and corporate functions, including subsidiaries, ensuring a robust risk management framework.
Take on additional responsibilities as needed, contributing to the overall success of CWB's operational risk management efforts.
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field. Equivalent experience in the industry will also be considered. Achievement of or working towards a professional designation such as CFA or CPA is highly desirable.
At least five (5) years of professional experience in banking operations, risk management, or internal audit at a Financial Institution.
Extensive knowledge of operational risk management frameworks and key elements, including Risk Control Assessment (RCA), Loss Data collection, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), Scenario Analysis, and Reporting. Equivalent experience will also be considered for educational requirements like RCA.
Solid understanding of the Standardized Approach to calculating operational risk capital requirements set out in Basel III.
Familiarity with various operational risk categories, such as Third-Party Risk Management, Business Continuity Management, and Operational Resilience.
Experience in crafting presentations, reports, and briefings for Senior Management.
Excellent skills in Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
Familiarity with OSFI Guideline E-21 and operational risk models is highly desirable.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to lead ongoing and competing tasks and projects.
Strong attention to detail and ability to perform daily operational tasks efficiently and accurately.
An individual who values teamwork and excels at encouraging cooperation and collaboration. Demonstrates effective influencing skills and can navigate differing viewpoints to achieve shared goals.
Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, consistently achieving results.
Sound understanding of regulatory requirements for Operational Risk Management.
Proven ability to work effectively with senior leadership, individuals, and teams at all levels within the organization.
Excellent time management skills and ability to deliver quality results on time.
Strong initiative and accountability to take action.
