About this opportunity:

The Comptrollers team has an opportunity in Oil Sands Production Accounting & Royalties for a Crown Royalty Analyst to apply their operational and/or financial skills in the Oil Sands Royalty (OSR) Accounting Group.

This position will report to the Team Lead, OSR Crown Royalties. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with finance, operations, and regulatory teams to ensure accurate cost analysis and application, royalty calculation, reporting, project application and overall administration of the Oil Sands Royalty Project within the OSR Crown Royalty group. This position offers the successful candidate the ability to work in a team environment to develop new processes, use their critical and creative thinking skills and develop a strong understanding of Oil Sands Royalties to add value to the business.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare, review, and submit the monthly Good Faith Estimate (GFE) form to the Alberta Department of Energy.

  • Complete annual end of period statements (EOPS) for Oil Sands royalty reporting to the Crown.

  • Complete annual Cost Analysis and Reporting Enhancement (C.A.R.E.) reporting and other ad hoc reporting as required by the Alberta Department of Energy.

  • Coordinate, prepare (with input from Decision Analysis, Reserves and other applicable groups), and submit Oil Sands Royalty applications to the Alberta Department of Energy.

  • Assist Audit Coordinator with audit requests related to Oil Sands Royalty Project.

  • Coordinate with Capital and Operations accounting functions as needed to ensure accurate monthly Oil Sands Royalty payable and expense reporting.

  • Assist in calculation of monthly royalty accrual.

  • Participate in researching legislation, guidelines and industry publications related to Oil Sands Royalty.

  • Provide internal partners (Operations, Finance, Treasury, Investor Relations and Regulatory) with information on royalty related issues.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree or equivalent work experience in accounting or finance.

  • Minimum 5 years of oil and gas accounting experience.

  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Self-starter, and have an affinity for details.

  • Working knowledge

  • of SAGD operations and Oil Sands Royalty regulations.

The following will be considered an asset:

  • A professional accounting designation.

  • Strong Microsoft Office and SAP skills. Functional knowledge of Energy Components (EC).
