About this opportunity:

We are looking for a Senior Process Safety Engineer who will provide specialist interpretation, analysis, and guidance in process safety and technical safety engineering. The position will build capacity in operations and leverage strengths in the team to deliver exceptional work. This role requires knowledge in various process safety engineering aspects which are required for the implementation of Cenovus’s Operational Integrity System (COIMS). The ideal candidate will thrive in creating methods and solutions to improve Process Safety performance and is integral to the network of professionals working at corporate offices or deployed at our facilities.

What you’ll do:

  • Demonstrate strong expertise in HAZOP & LOPA facilitation, consequence modeling, quantitative risk assessment, or fire protection.

  • Provide guidance on process safety, focusing on preventing loss of containment during all operational phases.

  • Consult with collaborators to integrate perspectives, optimizing hazard identification and risk control solutions.

  • Improve process safety awareness by sharing simple, actionable practices.

  • Leverage operations knowledge to identify weak signals through data from management of change processes, control of work procedures, process upsets, and incidents.

  • Offers technical expertise in barrier management to prevent unplanned and uncontrolled releases.

  • Guide and lead change efforts to implement COIMS process safety standards, including regulatory requirements and external provider guidelines.

  • Participate in or lead investigations of significant process safety events, offering recommendations and communicating insights through technical reports and presentations.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered for practice in Alberta is required.

  • 8+ years of operational experience with demonstrated process safety, hazard identification and risk assessment skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Confirmed ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
