Recreation Therapist - Women’s Secure Forensic Unit / Structured Observation & Treatment-camh

The Complex Care and Recovery Program is seeking a full-time, temporary (until January 1, 2025) Recreation Therapist to work in the Women’s Secure Forensic Unit (WSFU) & Secure Observation and Treatment Unit (SOTU). Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will work with the inter-professional team to promote a holistic leisure lifestyle by contributing to the social, physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive needs of clients. You will develop, plan, facilitate, schedule, organize and implement various therapeutic recreation programs. This will be accomplished by conducting assessments, developing individual recreation plans, completing patient documentation, skill instruction, development of program goals and objectives, and evaluating a variety of individual and group recreation programs. You will be expected to contribute to program development, research, and educational activities of the program. You will also provide supervision to students. This position involves extended tours including weekends. You will also support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.

The successful candidate must have a degree or diploma in Recreation or Recreation Therapy or a postgraduate certificate in Recreation and good working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices combined with one-year experience working as a Recreation Therapist. Eligibility for Registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is required. The incumbent must have the ability to facilitate groups. You must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to enable you to develop a professional therapeutic relationship with clients and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. You will be reliable, cooperative and client-focused. You will be a motivated team player who shows initiative. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with individuals with severe mental illness and knowledge of the Ontario Review Board process. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
