This is a superb opportunity to join our CGI-Edmonton team providing leading information technology services to our clients. We are seeking a Data Engineering Consultant to work in our large enterprise environments.

As a Data Engineer at CGI, you will play a vital role in ensuring that data is accessible, reliable, and secure for our clients. Your work will form the foundation for digital transformation and data-driven decision making.

• Create and support transactional and analytical data infrastructure by gathering, processing, analyzing, and structuring large volumes of data from many structured and unstructured data sources, at scale
• Design, develop and implement highly scalable, repeatable, and secure data pipelines and transformation processes
• Design and build transformation models and data flows for batch, real-time, and complex event-driven processes
• Develop data ingest processes across a variety of third-party APIs, applications, and file stores
• Employ proper data governance to ensure data security and integrity, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place and all in-motion and at-rest data is always secured
• Develop data extractions or reports from client requirements, and investigate data-related issues
• Develop data catalogs and data validation scripts to ensure data accuracy, clarity, and correctness of key business metrics
• Improving the performance of data pipelines and queries
• Managing and monitoring the underlying infrastructure (hardware, software, network)
• Develop automated solutions to support the ongoing QA (Quality Assurance) of data solutions
• Produce and maintain support documentation and data dictionaries
• Research and collaborate on decisions around the use of new tools and practices for data management technologies and software engineering practices
• Provide guidance to a customer and project team with respect to data requirements, data gaps, and the level of effort required to deliver a solution
• Work with team members to deliver products to market in an efficient manner
• Leverage public and private cloud architecture to deliver at scale in a large complex data enterprise

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• A minimum of five years of experience in data related roles (DBA, Data Analyst, Visualization Analyst, etc.), a minimum of 2 years as a data engineer.


• Proficiency in languages like Python, Java, Scala, or R for data manipulation and analysis


• Mastery of SQL for querying, manipulating, and optimizing relational databases


• Understanding of frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka for handling large datasets


• Expertise in extracting, transforming, and loading data from various sources into data warehouses or data lakes


• Familiarity with one or more cloud-based data services (AWS (Amazon Web Services), Azure, GCP (Google Cloud Platform)) and their data engineering tools


• Knowledge of building and managing transactional data stores, data warehouses and data lakes and proficiency in designing optimal data models, including relational, dimensional (star and snowflake schemas), to effectively store and retrieve data


• Experience with both relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases


• Understanding of data quality issues and implementation of data cleaning and validation processes


• Proven proficiency in using Git for version control and collaborating on code through GitHub


• Experience with automating application deployment using options such as: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps


• Strong written and oral communication skills with a critical eye for detail


• Have excellent time management, task planning and prioritization skills

Desirable qualifications:

• Experience with Azure, ADF, Databricks, Azure Synapse, SQL Server


• Understanding of machine learning concepts and their application to data engineering.


• Ability to create informative visualizations to communicate data insights


• Knowledge of data governance principles and practices

Educational qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in mathematics, informatics, statistics, computer science, or information systems (or equivalent combination of skill and experience)
