Job Summary

To provide materials handling duties including packing and unpacking library materials, drive courier route and complete distribution of mail and supplies across the library system. Perform materials processing routines when required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Load truck and drive courier route safely to deliver library materials, program resources, supplies, correspondence and other deliveries
  • Sorts materials for various locations and use related equipment
  • Material handling duties include unpacking and verifying new library materials and their distribution
  • Packs and unpacks material in transship boxes, delivering to appropriate location and sorting Central Library materials
  • Maintains control of receipts of shipments, packing slips and invoices
  • Complete internal mail distribution and filling supply requisitions for the library system, maintaining appropriate inventory
  • Process new library material or re-processes old library material including laminating jackets, packaging in appropriate cases, printing spine labels and affixing all primary labels
  • Creates, adds or amends holding information in the database
  • Responsible for contributing to a positive and respectful workplace
  • Other duties as assigned

Please note: This is a bargaining unit position. CUPE Local 1989 members will be given consideration for this vacancy, as per the collective agreement, followed by all other employees.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Secondary school education with up to 2 years of shipping and receiving experience is required
  • A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and excellent driving record is required
  • Experience in driving a 16 foot, 3 ton cube van and maintaining a vehicle for road safety is required
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential
  • Effective oral and written skills in English are essential
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills are essential
  • Knowledge of the city and library branch locations is an asset
  • Ability to identify process improvements and efficiencies, and participate in implementation
  • Must be able to lift 25kg on an ongoing basis and move book trucks

Hourly Rate/Salary: $48,727 - $59,104
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
