Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Library Collections & Material Handling, the successful candidate will supervise the Material Handling section for Mississauga Library. This includes supervising a staff team involved in the transportation of Library materials across the system, use of Automated Materials Handling equipment and related materials handling duties. The Supervisor, Library Material Handling is a member of Mississauga Library System’s leadership team and is actively involved in committees and projects to help meet the organization’s strategic ends.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Library Collections & Material Handling, the Supervisor is responsible for the provision of receiving, materials handling and courier services.

  • Responsible for planning, developing, directing, and evaluating operations and resources within the material handling business section.
  • Responsible for developing, directing, coaching, and evaluating staff in a unionized environment.
  • Develops services levels, guidelines, and standards for receiving, materials handling and courier services.
  • Ensures delivery of library materials and related items in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Manages relationships with vendors for Automated Materials Handling equipment, Material Management, Transportation & Works, and others for Material Handling related areas (supplies, courier vans, etc).
  • Contributes to the business unit and system's continued success through participation in special projects and system initiatives.
  • Monitors and ensures a safe, secure, and clean work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Skills and Qualifications

  • Library and Information Technician diploma preferred.
  • A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and excellent driving record is required.
  • Experience in driving a 16 foot, 3 ton cube van and maintaining a vehicle for road safety is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years supervisory experience leading teams in various library settings; experience in library technical services would be an asset.
  • Experience with automated materials handling equipment is preferred.
  • Excellent customer service, leadership, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Superior communication (verbal, written, presentation), problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and success with change management.
  • Excellent working knowledge of integrated library software systems; experience with SirsiDynix Symphony would be an asset.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word and Excel; experience with SAP would be an asset.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 76,313.00 - $ 101,753.00
