Overview: The Shift Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Fiber line Superintendent in the safe, economical, continuous operation of the Pulp Machine, Pulp Mill and Chip Supply areas by directing the hourly workforce, bearing in mind the company’s goals to achieve these ends.
Your challenges:
- Provide new employees with initial job training as well as consistently monitor all aspects of safety and housekeeping pertaining to crew and their jobs.
- With the Safety Stewards, conducts regular safety and housekeeping inspections and quarterly safety meetings
- Investigates, reports and acts on all injuries and potential injuries sustained with the crews
- Initiates mill evacuation
- Ensures reliability of all alarms, lights and ventilation fans in area
- Responsible for the continuous operation of the pulp production areas by directing the hourly workforce.
- Coordinates inter-departmental communication to maintain productivity within the budget.
- Monitors the integrity of all equipment and coordinates maintenance on off-shifts
- Responsible for optimum process quality by maintaining operating standards and promptly initiating correction action.
- Maintains all operating targets as per established operation procedures
- Communicates the importance of maintaining operating targets for product quality (i.e. customer requirements)
- Responsible for continuously monitoring all process information to ensure targets are met and scheduling of vacations, floaters and other employee time off to minimize overtime
- Maintains a management style that is supportive of hourly employees, solves problems and grievances at supervisory level and promotes company policies and procedures.
- Involves hourly employees in decision making (i.e. operating procedures, inventory management, etc.)
- Practices progressive discipline program with open, honest and appropriate communication
Your profile:
- University or Technical College degree plus two (2) years of pulp mill experience. Or,
- High school graduate with five (5) years direct and related experience.
The salary for this position is CAD $90-101K per year. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
