Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Advisor, Respectful Workplace to join our team in Surrey, B.C.

 

Reporting to the Leader, Respectful Workplace and working with Client Partners on the Respectful Workplace team, the Advisor provides support to managers and leaders in their expeditious investigation and resolution of respectful workplace complaints. The Advisor engages with key stakeholders such as Disability Management, Human Resources Consulting (labour relations), Resolution Team (mediators), Physiological Health and Safety, Organization Development, Workplace Health, WorkSafe BC, and Healthcare Unions to navigate the dynamics that apply to a respectful workplace complaint.

 

 

What We're Looking For: 

  • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a Business Administration program offering a concentration in Industrial/Labour Relations.
  • Experience: At least three (3) years of demonstrated work experience in Human Resources, Labour Relations and/or research/analysis roles, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience will also be considered.

Detailed Overview

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:

Responsible for assisting the Client Partners, Human Resources with the provision of advice and counsel to managers on contract administration, labour relations, and workforce transition matters. Participates in local union negotiations and grievance resolution discussions and processes, including researching and preparing related correspondence and initiating/responding to related communication with union representatives; assists Client Partners, HEABC and/or counsel with the preparation and presentation of third party hearings and educational in-services; takes on a variety of labour relations projects as assigned.


Responsibilities


1.  Under the direction of the assigned Client Partner, HR Consulting, provides advice and guidance to managers in resolving labour relations grievances and general human resources matters, prepares related correspondence and assists in problem-solving with matters such as:

  • employee performance
  • discipline
  • absenteeism
  • staff interaction
  • job selection/transfer
  • layoff/displacement/bumping
  • occupational health and safety
  • essential services and strike planning
  • scheduling

2.  Provides advice and assistance to managers and employees with contract administration such as researching and providing contract interpretation to managers and employees and assisting managers with grievance handling including:

  • direction on fact gathering
  • drafting responses to grievances
  • researching arbitral jurisprudence
  • strategizing employer position
  • preparing managers for Step 1 meetings
  • corresponding with union business agent, local stewards, Employer bargaining agent and legal counsel
  • preparing and presenting cases for third party hearing

3.  Provides interpretations and advice on legal statutes and organization policy.

4.  Promotes positive union/management relations through communication and meetings with managers, local stewards, and business agents.

5.  Participates in the preparation and presentation of education and in-services concerning labour relations and general human resources matters to managers and supervisors.

6.  Provides collective agreement interpretation and assistance to other Employee Experience departments and support departments such as:

  • Payroll
  • Workplace Health
  • Leadership & Organization Development
  • Talent Acquisition & On-Boarding.

7.  Researches, compiles and completes reports on specific subjects such as labour relations trends, arbitral jurisprudence and organization human resource problems as required or assigned.

8.  Provides guidance to clerical staff in contract implementation concerns.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from a Business Administration program offering a concentration in Industrial /Labour Relations with three years of demonstrated work experience in Human Resources, Labour Relations and/or research/analysis roles or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Proficiency in the use of a computer and applicable software applications.
