CFO – Chief Financial Officer

Company Overview:

Owners, builders, designers. A group of companies that operate in Ontario, the United States and Barbados.

Position:

As the Chief Financial Officer, you are responsible for overseeing the company’s overall financial management and reporting. You will assume a leadership/mentoring role in managing the Accounting Department, Operations, Processes and procedures as well as internal controls which will include staff training and development, annual evaluations and reinforcement of the corporate culture. Ensure that all administrative and operating procedures are documented and followed. 

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

Be an effective organizational leader and a key member of senior management.
-    Balance the responsibilities of stewardship (ensuring business integrity, financial health and growth) with business partnership (driving profitable growth). 
-    Contribute to strategic and management thinking as a partner to the business unit heads.
-    Manage collaborative relationships and potential conflicts; be a trusted and proactive partner in decision making.
-    Act as the integrator and navigator for the organization.
-    Be an effective leader of the finance and accounting function.
-    Bring professional qualities to the role and the organization.
-    Manage department and inter-department relationships with the intent to serve and eliminate bureaucracy. 

Accounting:

-    Provide supervision and training for all accounting staff. 
-    Review and assess accounting software, policies and procedures and recommend revisions as required. 
-    Responsible for overseeing and preparing year-end working papers for external accountants. 
-    Complete property/project level monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial packages including variance analysis. 
-    Monitor AP/AR/GLs and Bank Reconciliations on a continuous basis. 
-    Oversite of and assistance with cash flows, and financial reports for development projects. 
-    Responsible for CAM and realty tax reconciliation in communication with the Director of Property Management. 
-    Analyze cash balances and recommend the release of payments. 

Finance:

-    Be aware of all debt financing requirements. 
-    Ensure all debt facilities are in place as required and consolidated financial models are accurate, as per company’s operations, acquisitions, development efforts, and cash flow needs. 
-    Maintain a clear understanding of bank and loan  covenants and how they apply to the day to day as well as long term operation of the projects and properties. 
-    Maintain strong relationships with financial lenders and investors. 
-    Assist with acquisitions due diligence and analysis. 

Reporting:

-    Manage all financial reporting requirements relating to both credit and investor relationships. 
-    Assist with budget creation and undertake all reforecasting. 
-    Develop and implement a management information “dashboard” which identifies and tracks key performance indicators allowing the President and Senior Management to see the main drivers affecting the business in a timely and efficient manner. 
-    Analyze project costs v. budget costs; investigate variances and document explanations in monthly reporting package.
 
Administration / Operations 

-    Maintain strong communications with the President of the Company and develop a good understanding of property development, leasing, and property management activities to help capture efficiencies and avoid any unnecessary risk exposure. 

Strategy 

-    Assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and the company’s long-term strategy. 
-    Analyze and provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plan. 
-    Perform any additional duties as requested by management. 

Qualifications 

-    CPA designation required. CPA/CA Preferred.
-    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with 10+ years accounting experience post CPA.
-    Experience in a Senior Accounting or Finance role required. 
-    Experience in the Real Estate Industry is an asset.
-    Strong knowledge of ASPE and US GAAP is an asset
-    Solid experience leading and managing a team. 
-    Advanced Excel skills.
-    Sense of urgency – ability to complete work within deadlines. 
-    Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-    Experience with Yardi Breeze and Jonas software considered an asset.
-    Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under deadlines.
-    Self-motivated, creative, and innovative.
