Job Description: The Senior Epidemiologist is a member of the Population Health department and works with partners across and external to the SHA. Builds effective working relationships within the QSI portfolio, Medical Health Officers, Primary Health Care, Provincial Programs, and other corporate support departments, to inform the health system. Under the direction of the SHA Senior Medical Health Officer (MHO) and other MHOs, the Senior Epidemiologist reports on the health of the population through health equity integrated health status reporting at provincial, SHA Area and Health Networks levels. They develop recommendations aimed at health system partners to improve overall population health. The Senior Epidemiologist advises and works closely with the Senior and other MHOs, EDs, and Directors to have direct and significant influence on high risk and high community impact strategies and directions, including community and organizational policies, budgets, and human resources.

Experience
- Three years' previous experience in population health
- Three year's experience in public health and/or health determinants surveillance
Education
- Master of Epidemiology
- Master of Public Health (MPH)
Other Education and Training
- Canadian Field Epidemiology Program (CFEP) preferred

- Knowledge of process and principles, theories and practices of epidemiology
- Ability to assist and develop policies and procedures according to best practice
- Skilled at performing quantitative and qualitative evaluations
- Computer applications to provide & interpret quality epidemiology info
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge of communicable disease transmission
- Knowledge of information sources related to Community Health
- Knowledge of analyzing, reporting of data and statistics
- Knowledge translation experience
- Ability to plan, develop and oversee disease surveillance programs.
- Knowledge translation experience
- Knowledge of research methods involving collecting data analyzing
- Competence in SAS, SPSS, R or other statistical packages
Other Information
- Preference to HSAS members as per the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement
- HSAS seniority in the SHA will be considered under the selection criteria
- Experience with publishing programs would be useful
