Job Description: Assessing, intervening, planning, using evidence informed interventions, evaluating and documenting services. Services are provided to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient or community settings, relating to the client's leisure needs, interests and abilities and overall treatment plan. Overseeing the delivery of the overall Recreation Therapy service for a program or team and supervise Recreation Coordinators and Therapy Assistants where applicable. The Recreation Therapist works within the standards and competencies as outlined by the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Education
- Bachelor of Recreation Studies
- Current CPR certification
Knowledge and abilities
- Ability to collect, record, report comprehensive client information accurately
- Knowledge in conflict resolution techniques
- Knowledge in local leisure service and health related delivery systems
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of Rec Therapy
- Shown skills in program development, training and education and facilitation
- Proven ability to collaborate and partner with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Ability to adapt to changing conditions
- Ability to use programs to improve clients independence in life activities
- Ability to develop, evaluate and modify programming provided to clients
- Ability to treat individuals with chronic illness or disabling conditions
- Knowledge of Health Information Protection Act and other legislation.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge in therapeutic recreation and health promotion
- Ability to use a variety of interventions/programs
