Summer 2025 Work Term

As of October 15, 2024 Loblaw has adopted the following Hybrid working model (a combination of working between the office and remotely). Colleagues will continue working remotely up to 1 day a week, while spending the other 4 days in the office (to be determined by each business unit).

The Compliance & Ethics (C&E) group at Loblaw is passionate about enabling growth and excellence by doing the right thing. We are an essential component of the business, and work with the various departments across Loblaw Companies Limited and its affiliates to weigh in on compliance & ethics matters so that the business can meet its objectives. We ensure that ethical behaviors are defined, and that conduct is in line with expectations.

We are a unique and collaborative department that is responsible for overseeing a large scope of regulatory compliance areas, including, but not limited to: Food and Product Safety, Privacy, Environment, Pharmacy, Occupational Health & Safety, Liquor, Alcohol, Tobacco, Cannabis, Transportation, Payroll, etc. C&E also manages the whistleblower (integrity action line) and further champions ethics through coordinating activities amongst other programs such as fraud and anti-bribery.

The Opportunity:

Working closely with the Compliance & Ethics team members, you will gain hands-on project experience working with experienced professionals.

You will learn about the key elements of a best-in-class compliance program as we design, review, assess, test, and operationalize regulatory compliance programs and support their implementation across Loblaw Companies Limited and its affiliates.

During your internship, you will get a realistic job preview and a glimpse of opportunities for your professional growth and development within Loblaw. This role is an ideal pathway for students interested in pursuing a career in compliance, audit, legal, consulting, advisory and risk management with a large complex organization.

The Role:

  • Supporting the team in the day-to-day management of multiple projects
  • Supporting the team in collecting data from the business, and in conducting research, analysis, and benchmarking exercises to prepare engaging project deliverables (PowerPoint reports, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Participating in discussions with the business, and assisting with the development of standardized framework and playbooks to guide compliance programs and the business
  • Contributing to further developing the department’s ‘Toolkit’ of resources and managing departmental records

Competencies:

  • Currently enrolled in a university degree program (we will be considering candidates from a spectrum of programs such as business, commerce, science, engineering, arts, etc.)
  • Previous work experience is preferred (e.g. internships, summer positions, school jobs)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple assignments
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills; an ability to think broadly and to ask questions about data, facts, and other information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion and exceptional desire to make an impact on the business and community
  • A positive attitude, a desire to learn, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get work done, either independently or as part of a team
  • Highly proficient with using the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
