About the Role

Oversees and directs the Human Resources team by supervising, planning, organizing, and implementing Human Resources programs. This Assistant Manager must guide their team toward meeting divisional objectives. As required, the Department Leader will assume the duties of the Department Manager.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provides instruction, guidance and leadership to Supervisors by assisting in solving day to day problems, utilizing the Magna Employee Charter while implementing the policies and procedures of the company.
  • Utilize interactive management principles when implementing progressive discipline procedures in dealing with unsatisfactory employees.
  • Conducts performance reviews at specified timeframes (annually, probationary, trial period).
  • Is involved in incident investigations in his/her area.
  • To remain current on all aspects of human relations, wage management, manpower planning, recruitment and selection strategies, health and safety, environmental, and training and development issues or trends and provide support, advise, or influence where appropriate/necessary, to all leaders regarding policies, procedures, work practices where there is the potential to negatively impact labour relations, quality of work life, or compliance to established standards (legislation, divisional, corporate)
  • Effectively develop and lead all direct reports within the HR Department to ensure all services are provided at the highest level of quality and timeliness while maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Develop and foster strong working relationships with all employees, department managers, Management Team members, direct reports, committees and teams so each will feel comfortable seeking support for HR related issues, while reinforcing the Open-Door Process (ODP) and confidentiality
  • Influence the development, implementation of, or changes, to labour relation strategies necessary to foster the Magna Employee’s Charter Principles and preserve a strong cultural foundation, quality work life environment within the division and drive any resulting programs or strategies as assigned
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and oversight of all HR systems for the division, including hiring, performance management, training & development, health & safety, environmental, and other HR systems required by the division
  • Assist in the preparation, timely submission and effective management of HR Dept. annual budget, and adherence to approved budget
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining effective policies and procedures for the division to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all employees
  • Attend meetings necessary to ensure ongoing understanding of quality of work life and labour relations’ issues including Health and Safety committees, Advocate, Fairness Committee, Plant meetings, Production meetings, etc
  • Support culture/diversity management
Who we are looking for
  • Must have completed post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • Completion of HRPA designation
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, organizational, and supervisory skills
  • Able to work in various locations within and outside the plant
  • Knowledge of Magna tools and policies including safety policies
  • Required to possess a mature, consistent attitude towards the responsibilities of the job
  • Must have strong leadership skills, must be able to lead by example whenever necessary and promote a team approach to problem solving
  • Must have sound knowledge of employment related legislative requirements
  • Must be self-motivated and display the skills required to develop and motivate employees
  • Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects
