LCG Operations Specialist, Business Intelligence

The opportunity


This position will seat in the Law, Compliance & Government Relations (LCG) function (1,300+ employees globally) and will report to the “LCG Director Strategy & Operations - Integration Focus” who leads the integration of BAU and a broad range of operational improvement efforts and projects across the global (North America, Europe and Asia) function while supervising and influencing immediate team and function budgets and priorities, the function’s technology roadmap and strategic planning efforts.

The successful candidate will be a key and strategic team player with cross-functional responsibilities and exposure to the various teams across LCG, as well as our internal partner functions such as Finance, Technology, Strategy and Risk.

This is a hybrid position with three core days in office per week (currently Tuesday through Thursday), preferably at the Toronto, ON, or the Waterloo, ON, Canada location.

Responsibilities:

In support of and in collaboration with the Director Strategy & Operations - Integration Focus and as relevant, the Head of LCG Strategy & Operations:

LCG Strategy & Operations team Functional Reporting, Financial Planning & Cost Management support

  • Identify reporting milestones then design annual timelines to anticipate inputs and sign-off workload and timing and plan tasks accordingly.
  • Generate appropriate monthly and quarterly reports and communication materials for the Head of LCG Strategy & Operations, the leadership teams and for presentation to other leadership forums.
  • Represent LCG Strategy & Operations specifically and the LCG Function in the financial planning process, working in partnership with business and finance teams to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data, insights, trends and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Finance to understand and report on monthly LCG Strategy & Operations team specific and LCG function in general financial performance (forecast vs. actuals) and complete ad hoc budget analysis as the need arises.
  • Responsible for functional cost savings tracking and reporting process including analysis and validation with Finance.
  • Responsible for supporting LCG Function quarterly functional reporting process (qualitative and quantitative assessments of results versus scorecard and KPI expectations)
  • Develop and prepare executive presentation materials, metrics and performance reports, and ad hoc requests including crafting analysis, conclusions, and facilitating associated next step actions.
  • Find opportunities and recommend options for improving financial tracking and reporting processes.

Portfolio Project Management (PPM) support

  • Working in conjunction with teams across the LCG function, maintain and monitor a prioritized. ongoing, accurate inventory and classification (BAU, vs. Strategic Projects etc.) of all LCG functional initiatives.
  • Supporting annual planning cycle milestone (review, prioritization, and approval of strategic projects) as per Manulife’s enterprise strategic planning and governance processes.
  • Supporting LCG Partner’s preparation of business case and financial analysis (ROI) for funding requests
  • Reporting - supervise overall health of LCG portfolio of initiatives and complete monthly status reports.
  • Partner engagement - facilitate cross functional communication between LCG teams and relevant Partner teams (e.g. Technology (Architecture & Delivery), Data, Risk, Finance, etc.).
  • Process Improvement - find opportunities and recommend options for practical, standard methodology process improvements within LCG PPM and support planning and implementation of agreed to changes.

What we are looking for:

  • Validated prior experience handling BAU and initiative funding as well as reporting on financial planning and execution variances.
  • Validated prior experience partnering with IT, Finance, and other Collaborator teams. Very diligent and extremely organized.
  • Validated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and quickly learn new concepts, tools, and processes.
  • Proven proactive, strategic, innovative, and critical thinking-based ability to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Motivated to work with limited supervision to proactively produce quality results and deliver on established priorities and timelines.
  • Experience in an international, distributed work environment, facilitating diverse partner groups based in multiple locations (globally) for the purpose of acquiring resolution to problems and/or collaborating on business outcomes.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate our Asian regions on a case-by-case basis.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as strong social skills.
  • Business Analyst or Data Analytics background a plus.
  • Experience in legal operations and/or understanding of LCG function(s) and/or of the Manulife/John Hancock operations is a plus.
  • Experience with relevant digital tools (O365 PowerApps, PowerBI, SharePoint etc.).

Salary range is expected to be between

$70,350.00 CAD - $117,250.00 CAD
