Taxation Business Analyst

CDN Segment Taxation Operations is an integral part of our company, focusing on client reporting to Canadian Division business units and addressing client-related inquiries. Our team also specializes in diagnosing and resolving policy-level taxation discrepancies.

We are currently seeking a Junior Business Analyst with excellent communication skills and knowledge of life insurance products or tax processes to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Taxation Operations, you will analyze business processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to drive efficiency and effectiveness. You will collaborate closely with partners to understand their needs and translate them into actionable requirements.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze data sets to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights for informed business decisions; develop and maintain data reporting tools, dashboards, and visualizations for stakeholders.

  • Process Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement, develop strategies to enhance efficiency, and ensure initiatives align with organizational goals.

  • Root Cause Analysis and Quality Assurance: Conduct root cause analysis to address underlying issues and perform internal testing, quality assurance, and auditing functions to ensure processing and workflow integrity.

  • Collaboration and Implementation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement improvement initiatives, monitor and track project progress, and assist in project planning, scheduling, and tracking.

  • Documentation and Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain documentation for process improvements, manage the document and procedure library, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Understands the basics of Life insurance taxation; What causes a life insurance disposition to be taxable, and what are the consequences if things go wrong. (We can train on the technicalities)

  • Understands Why making sure tax documents, calculations and client’s policies are reporting correctly is important.

  • Is very customer focused, driven to work through the red tape and Manulife complexities to deliver the best result for our customers

  • Can work with multiple collaborators and internal partners to champion a project or complex case to drive optimal results for our client

  • Great teammate, interested in growing their career in life or corporate tax, perhaps perusing a tax designation

  • Who can help team members learn and gain a better understanding of the systems and calculations, and understanding why what we do is important.

  • Someone who likes math, loves spreadsheets, and enjoys solving complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications:·

  • Taxation knowledge

  • Previous experience in business analysis, data analysis, or a related role is preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in business analysis tools and techniques.

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.

  • Knowledge of life insurance products or tax processes is a plus.

  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with SQL, Excel, and other data analysis tools.

Salary range is expected to be between

$49,575.00 CAD - $82,625.00 CAD
