The position will report to the Drill and Blast Specialist.
The schedule is a 4 days on: 3 days off rotation working either Mon - Thurs or Tues - Fri.
The position is a 12 month Co-op student position. The candidate must be a student within a Canadian post-secondary educational institution.
Provide technical support to Porcupine surface mining operations by assisting with various aspects of mine engineering, specifically drilling and blasting, to achieve the mine’s safety and production targets as well as add value to the operation.
The position provides an opportunity for a student to learn the surface mining process in an operational environment.

Promoting Safety and Sustainability
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and implementing new designs.
- Develop plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards.
- Promote and adhere to Company safety policies.
Exposure to Surface Mining Operations
Understand the operation and limitations of (and provide technical support to) through exposure to:
- Drilling operations,
- Blasting operations,
- Loading operations,
- Material management, including overburden removal, haulage, dump management and mill feed.
Technical Responsibilities
Provide technical support in the following engineering duties in varying capacities, aligning with the needs of:
- Drill and blast design, quality control reviews and post-blast data collation and analysis
- Short-term planning duties
- Waste dump management
- Project management
- Surveying duties
- Peer to peer work reviews
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent mining-related engineering degree.
- Be technically competent and have a good understanding of surface mining.
- Familiarity with Deswik would be considered an asset (not required)
This is a 12-month co-op position located in Timmins, ON supporting our surface mine operation.
