Our Red Chris Mine, located in the heart of Northern British Columbia on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. Pit Utility personnel will manage and conduct pit dewatering activities in the open pit, plan and execute shovel moves, assist with drill and blast activities. When required, they will operate small equipment such as excavators, articulated rock trucks, loaders and water trucks. The Pit Utility position is essential for supporting various operations, including maintenance and ensuring the overall efficiency of the mining site.
The Red Chris Mine Operations team is recruiting for a Pit Utility team member, with a competitive hourly rate of $45.32, additional overtime opportunities, benefits package, RRSP program and a Travel Allowance to get to and from the worksite
We are seeking an individual for a Fly-In, Fly-Out opportunity working on a two-weeks-in, two-weeks-out rotation.
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Comply with Newmont standards, policies, and the Health, Safety, Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia
- Balance workload and make decisions in consultation with other stakeholders to achieve safe production outcomes
- Undertake specific tasks as directed by the Open Pit Supervisor
- Utilize risk management tools (JSEA or FLHA) and critical control management tools (FRM)
- Promote and maintain a culture of ‘safe production’ by compliance with company safety systems, policies, procedures, accountabilities, standards.
- Operate various equipment such as loaders, excavators and water trucks to transport materials within the pit area.
- Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of mining equipment to ensure optimal performance. Report any malfunctions or required repairs.
- Assist with daily mining operations, including equipment checks, fuelling, and general maintenance of the pit area.
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Minimum of 2 years experience working in an Open Pit mining environment
- At least 1 year of prior experience in a Pit Utility, or similar role
- Minimum 1 year of Dewatering and/or Pumping experience
- Wheel loader operating experience - 2000+ hours minimum
- Excavator experience (Hitachi 470/870) - 2000+ hours minimum
- Experience with rubber tire back hoes, dozers, telehandlers and articulating dump trucks desirable
- Experience with equipment shovel cable manipulator attachments

The expected salary range for this role is CA$45.32/hour . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
