Our Red Chris Mine, located in the heart of Northern British Columbia on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. A short distance from Iskut and Dease Lake, Our fly-in, fly-out site offers access from various points across British Columbia and Alberta. Red Chris currently operates as an open-pit copper and gold mine with a promising future to transition to a high-value underground block cave operation. Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Superintendent - Human Resources with a competitive base salary between $126,650.00 - $171,350.00 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications, with an additional short term incentive of 20% . The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies with consideration to internal equity.
The purpose of this role is to provide safe, efficient, and cost-effective operational control of Red Chris’ Human Resources department in accordance with legal requirements and company objectives. Lead and develop the existing HR Team and coordinate systems and programs to ensure employees are able to effectively perform and contribute. Conduct research, develop analytical tools, prepare summary reports, and maintain files related to internal complaints, grievances, awards and settlements, in order to make informed recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Accountabilities
Health & Safety
- Follow standards, frameworks and ensures personal behaviours are aligned to a culture of recognizing hazards and minimizing risk and consequential harm to fellow employees
- Ensure compliance to all regulations, laws, policies, procedures, and standards
- Maintain functional safety and awareness of emerging safety standards, ensuring alignment with industry
Technical
- Establish goals, priorities and strategic direction for the department
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team, department superintendents and managers on the development of employee improvement plans (including coaching & feedback) and/or 360 feedback survey results
- Facilitate site wide annual HR cycles (Objective setting, Development goals, performance review, talent assessment etc.)
- Provide guidance to department superintendents, managers and key supervisory staff on matters relating to all aspects of the employment relationship including relevant legislation and labour relations
- Attend grievance, negotiation, settlement, and disciplinary meetings
- Facilitate Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and programs
- Educate leaders and employees in the use of business HRIS systems to effectively manage their teams and their work
- Provide oversight and site linkage to corporate-based HR processes such as recruitment, compensation and benefits, employee relations and talent management and succession planning.
- Lead the site implementation of the Leadership Competency Framework, Levels of Work, and roll out of consistent Job Description templates
Leadership, People & Development
- Lead and direct the advice, support and coaching to designated managers on employee and labour relations matters
- Promote a companywide, team-based culture
- Identify and actively develop/coach key personnel for career development
- Create a culture within the Red Chris Mine that respects all employees and encourages and motivates employee improvement
- Conduct annual employee evaluations, identify and recognize achievements, establish developmental improvement plans and where appropriate, career development plans
- Execute progressive discipline, up to and including recommendation for termination
Operational
- Develop, execute, and assess HR business plans
- Drive legislative compliance, review and implement best practices and update policies and processes to maintain compliance
- Demonstrate behaviours consistent with Newcrest’s values, Code of Conduct, and relevant legislation
- Contribute to the wider success of the HR Shared Services and the HR team through active collaboration with all corporate and site-based HR personnel
- Monitor own work performance against role requirement and receive and implement feedback to improve processes
Systems
- Review reports and provides in depth analysis of HR data, and recommends appropriate action to address emerging trends
- Contribute to various HR reports and presentations that include the review and analysis of HR data used to inform business decisions
- Collate and provide information to site staff to ensure performance and development planning, reviews and calibration activities are completed
About You
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Post-graduate degree, specializing in Human Resources, Employee and Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or similar field of study
- Chartered Professional of Human Resources designation (CPHR) is considered an asset
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Human Resources
- Related experience in mining and an understanding of Project Management would be considered assets
- Demonstrates people leadership skills, as well as critical and strategic thinking
- Solid understanding of human resources and expert knowledge and experience in Labour Relations practices, related legislation and applicable collective agreements and jurisprudence
- Proficient in MS Office Suite of Products, Microsoft Teams, and One View reports
- Experience with SAP and/or other HR software considered a strong asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong multi-tasking and proven ability to manage competing priorities based on business demands
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision once familiar with requirements
- Self-motivated and takes initiative; proactively looks for ways to add value

The expected salary range for this role is CA$126,650-171,350 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
