Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

Carry out a full range of mechanical and electrical inspections, service and repairs on auxiliary/standby power generators and pumps in both Water/Wastewater facilities and remote pump stations. Maintain and execute an active preventive maintenance program, including all related works and data input. Keep accurate and detailed records of work assignments, staff hours, purchases, repairs etc. Ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with applicable Acts, Regulations, policies and procedures. Responsible for maintaining a parts inventory, including developing and updating a parts list, minimum and maximum quantities and researching cost effective alternatives. Assist with the training of staff and provide input for budget management, plant upgrades etc. as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • Completion of Grade 12 plus trade school as required for the completion of a Certificate of Qualification as an Automotive Technician (310S) and or Truck and Coach Technician (310T).
  • Preference given for Internal Combustion Alternative Fuel Technician (Propane) Certification.
  • Preference given for MOE certifications for Water Treatment and/or Distribution Class 1 and Wastewater Treatment and/or Collection Class 1.
  • Preference given for Woodward Mechanical/Electrical Governor certification.
  • Preference given for Ontario Electrical Power Generation 1 & 2 Certification.
  • Preference given for a Heavy Equipment Mechanics Certification (421A).
  • Post Secondary or continuing education training in electrical/electronic technologies and diesel engine electronics an asset.
  • Post Secondary or continuing education training with computer applications relevant to this position.
  • Additional education requirements as per regulations for Wastewater Licensing.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in inspection, service and repairs of diesel, propane and natural gas powered stationary and portable generators and pumps in water/ wastewater plants or similar industrial environments.
  • Experience with fabrication and welding of metal components.
  • Experience working with instrumentation and other electrical devices for diesel engines.
  • Experience and training with industrial 600 VAC electrical power systems.
  • Previous experience with computerized maintenance management systems a definite asset.
  • 1 year operating experience in a water & wastewater plant is an asset.
  • Experienced in the maintenance of hydraulic systems.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Certificate of Qualification as an Automotive Service Technician (310S) and or Truck & Coach Technician (310T).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted licence for the class of the vehicle operated (Class DZ).
  • Must possess above average computer skills.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing and able to complete Employer provided training to obtain Electrical Power Generation 1 & 2 certification.
  • Must be willing and able to complete Employer provided training to maintain possession of the MOE Certification for Water Treatment and or Distribution Class I and/or Wastewater Treatment and or Collections Class I, as appropriate.
  • Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all employer provided safety training including certificates for WHMIS, First Aid/C.P.R., Confined Space Entry, Electrical Lock Out/Tag Out, Materials Handling, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
  • Must be willing to successfully complete all additional training as assigned by the employer.
  • Travel required within the Niagara Region to perform maintenance.
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
